Mission Statement

The purpose of ANIA is to advance nursing informatics through education, research, and practice in all roles and settings.

Business

Goal: ANIA will be fiscally responsible in managing our professional organization

Objectives:

  1. Conduct ethical, efficient, and effective business management based on ANIA’s bylaws, policies and procedures
  2. Maintain a balanced budget
  3. Practice sound investment strategies
  4. Grow membership

Strategies:

  1. Adhere to ANIA bylaws, policies and procedures as they relate to the fiscal responsibilities of the organization
  2. Develop and manage ANIA’s budget in collaboration with the management company
  3. Monitor and manage ongoing investment strategies that provide balance between conservative and risk-based investments that will benefit ANIA for years to come
  4. Retain 90% of current members and grow membership by 20% by Q4 2016

Tactics:

  1. Review bylaws, policies and procedures on an annual basis to ensure that they remain current and applicable
  2. Provide budget and investment reports to all board members monthly and ANIA membership annually
  3. Review investment status quarterly and carry out decisions approved by ANIA BOD
  4. Create Organizational Membership Plan by Q2
  5. Retain current membership dues for FY 2015

Communication & Networking

Goal: ANIA will utilize effective communication and networking strategies

Objectives:

  1. Promote effective communication between the board, ANIA members and the healthcare informatics professional community
  2. Provide professional networking opportunities
  3. Collaborate with affiliate organizations and industry partners

Strategies:

  1. Utilize electronic tools to promote efficient, effective communication and networking
  2. Promote and support regional activities
  3. Support chapter development
  4. Identify opportunities to collaborate with affiliate organizations and industry partners
  5. Communicate the role and value of informatics

Tactics:

Education

Goal: ANIA will provide quality informatics educational opportunities

Objectives:

  1. Deliver relevant and meaningful education using multiple venues and delivery methods
  2. Provide value to our members with Continuing Nursing Education opportunities
  3. Collaborate with affiliate organizations (ANA, AONE, AMIA, HIMSS, State Nursing Organizations, etc.) to provide informatics education

Strategies:

  1. Utilize member feedback to develop and deliver educational offerings
  2. Utilize the most current and appropriate technologies to meet learner needs
  3. Provide educational opportunities through the annual ANIA conference
  4. Conduct webinar educational sessions that are archived for later review by members
  5. Provide contact hours for the annual conference, webinar sessions and select articles published in the quarterly ANIA publication Nursing Informatics Today
  6. Reach out to affiliate organizations to offer nursing informatics education
  7. Explore the feasibility of developing informatics educational materials
  8. Support ANIA Chapter educational activities

Tactics:

  1. Identify webinar topics, speakers and maintain webinar calendar quarterly
  2. Develop conference themes and other educational activities based on membership survey, feedback and emerging trends annually
  3. Sustain an annual scholarship program for nurses pursuing advanced education in the field of informatics
  4. Collaborate with management company to provide continuing education for the annual conference, webinars and in the ANIA publication Nursing Informatics Today
  5. Conduct at least six Webinars annually
  6. Provide ongoing guidance to the ANIA Chapters for the delivery of relevant and meaningful education

Professional Activities

Goal: ANIA ANIA will advance informatics through professional activities

Objectives:

  1. Monitor health IT initiatives to promptly identify and address key issues influencing nursing informatics
  2. Collaborate in discussions and policy-making that influence the nursing and informatics communities
  3. Provide leadership and development opportunities to prepare informatics nurses to be leaders in the association and the community
  4. Promote mentoring activities related to the development of nursing informatics professionals

Strategies:

  1. Provide a voice for nursing informatics on relevant issues
  2. Facilitate methodologies for members to provide feedback on regulatory policy issues
  3. Develop mentoring tools and resources
  4. Provide orientation for new ANIA Board members

Tactics:

  1. Monitor current healthcare related events and relevant websites for opportunities to provide input or feedback on key issues related to informatics
  2. Develop a task force of volunteers to interpret and respond to informatics related issues as needed
  3. Provide web tools for mentors and mentees
  4. Review the orientation process for all elected and appointed positions by creating job descriptions for each position annually

Research

Goal: ANIA will promote informatics research

Objectives:

  1. Promote research to develop knowledge and promote evidence-based practice for nursing informatics
  2. Disseminate relevant, quality nursing informatics research to ANIA members

Strategies:

  1. Identify and disseminate research priorities and findings
  2. Facilitate research to create nursing informatics knowledge and evidence

Tactics:

  1. Provide research articles (original or reviews) via the quarterly ANIA publication, Nursing Informatics Today
  2. Investigate the use of grants for conducting ANIA sponsored nursing informatics research
  3. Investigate opportunities to collaborate in research efforts with other organizations
  4. Provide education on research techniques and methodologies
  5. Initiate one ANIA sponsored nursing research project in 2015/2016
