ANIA President Speaks on Behalf of Nurses in IT
In an exclusive interview with FierceHealthIT, ANIA President Patricia Sengstack discussed a few challenges in the rising demand for nursing informatics in health care. As the role has expanded, she expects many improvements on the horizon. Sengstack believes that data should easily follow patients through all levels of care. This is currently a challenge for hospice and long-term care facilities, and part of her job is providing informatics support to these care settings and creating an infrastructure for payment models.
"It's all about getting the right data to the right people to make the right decisions," Sengstack says.
Informatics nurses are charting a new direction and adding great value to health care. As their roles expand, these nurses will bring even more advancement to the way we care for patients. (Source: FierceHealthIT, August 4, 2014)

Wearable Devices May Soon Be Standard for Nurses
As the popularity of wearable devices such as Google Glass increases, today’s nurses are likely to see such tools become part of their everyday uniform within their lifetime. A report by IHS Electronics & Media estimates that by 2015, the market for activity monitors, sleep sensors, smart watches, and the like will have grown to $20 billion in the United States. The Hospital Corporation of America is even testing a robot that would clean patient rooms. (Source: NurseZone, August 12, 2014)
