Module on Informatics in Care Coordination and Transition Management Available
Informatics nursing practice supports all dimensions of Care Coordination Transition Management (CCTM). The use of health information technology is essential for safe care of patients in all health care settings and streamlines processes of coordinating care as patients transfer between different locations or levels of care. A new educational module from the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing provides a discussion of the importance of using nationally recognized standardized terminologies across settings. The module also presents the integration of the knowledge, skills, and attitudes between the RN-CCTM Model and informatics nursing practice.

Nurse Continues to Fight Ebola Quarantine in Maine
Although Kaci Hickox was released from a mandatory quarantine in New Jersey last week after returning from West Africa, her home state of Maine is requesting that she remain at home for the remainder of the recommended 21 days. Hickox has publicly stated that she does not intend to comply if the request isn't lifted by Thursday. Governor Paul LePage is seeking legal authority to keep her isolated until November 10.
"While we certainly respect the rights of one individual, we must be vigilant in protecting 1.3 million Mainers, as well as anyone who visits our great state," LePage said.
Many states are developing and fine-tuning Ebola regulations by the hour. President Obama has stated he is "frustrated" by such policies that create public fear. (Source: Reuters, October 29, 2014)

Many facilities launched full-bore initiatives and research efforts were redoubled. In the September/October issue of Nephrology Nursing Journal, authors Beth Ulrich and Tamara Kear do a sweeping analysis of the country's progress since the IOM report.
