March 10-16 is Patient Safety Awareness Week. The focus this year is on improving safety in the ambulatory setting. A free webcast entitled Advancing Patient Safety Beyond the Hospital will be held on March 13, 2019. Dr. Jeff Brady, director of the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality (AHRQ) Center for Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, and Lisa Schilling, RN, vice president for quality, safety, and clinical effectiveness at Stanford Health Care, will discuss the state of ambulatory patient safety in the United States, the infrastructure needed to advance patient safety in these settings, and the importance of optimizing foundational factors such as patient safety culture, teamwork among clinicians, and patient and family engagement for the success of improvement efforts.
Read Dr. Brady’s Patient Safety Awareness Week blog post, which outlines the challenges and opportunities in promoting safer ambulatory care and highlights AHRQ’s involvement in the ongoing work of the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety.
